Hummingbirds and Sunflowers

These photos, taken over the last 4 years, show Ruby-throated Hummingbirds with Mexican Sunflowers. It’s a great combination.

Notes:

None of the hummingbirds pictured show the characteristic ruby throat, which means that they are females or immature birds. The Mexican Sunflowers (Tithonia rotundifolia) are the variety “Torch.” The large, bushy plants produce flowers from mid-summer to frost and attract butterflies (see Butterflies and Sunflowers) as well as hummingbirds.
