A delightful dozen photo gallery. I looked through my backyard bird photos for the first half of the year and chose 2 per month. The Featured Image shows the beautiful and shy Brown Thrasher (April 18).

Resources About Birds
All About Birds. A great first place to identify or learn about birds. I especially like the “sounds” section, since sometimes I suspect a certain bird is around, but I hear it more than I see it.
Sibley Guides. The link will take you to a page about Gray Catbirds. The last bird in the gallery, the Gray Catbird, has an interesting look, with a cap that is a bit spiky or fluffy and also is not a dark charcoal gray. According to the Sibley Guides, those features indicate that the bird is a juvenile.
Wikipedia. The Wikipedia articles about birds are usually a quick read with all the basic information. I use Wikipedia when I want to learn the Spanish name for a particular bird species — a task where a dictionary would be unreliable. Beginning with the English article for the species, I then choose the corresponding article in Spanish. The WIkipedia link at the beginning of this section is for the White-crowned Sparrow (a bird whose range includes northern Mexico). Here is the link for the corresponding Spanish article: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zonotrichia_leucophrys. I can quickly see that a common name for the White-crowned Sparrow in Spanish is gorrión corona blanca. A few other common names are also provided: gorrión de corona blanca, gorrión blanco coronado, chingolo coroniblanco.
