October is prime persimmon time around here. The ripening fruits attract many animals, including raccoons and possums. As the critters climb around in the tree seeking the ripe persimmons, they inevitably break many small twigs and knock unripe fruits to the ground. For the sake of the harvest, it’s necessary to give those pesky animals a ride to a remote location far from the persimmon tree. I’m sure the critters are a little sad about the whole thing.
I’m a Soggy Possum Now by Don Ray
The gravel’s pretty thin
on this muddy road.
My tracks show where I’ve been
on this muddy road.
Rain falling down,
falling all around,
rain falling, rain falling down.
Rain falling down,
I’m a soggy possum now,
I’m a soggy, soggy possum now.
Traveling’s not too easy
on this muddy road.
The old clay’s getting greasy
on this muddy road.
Rain falling down,
falling all around,
rain falling, rain falling down.
Rain falling down,
I’m a soggy possum now,
I’m a soggy, soggy possum now.
Wet persimmons glistening
up in the tree.
There’s a banquet that I’m missing
up in the tree.
Rain falling down,
falling all around,
rain falling, rain falling down.
Rain falling down,
I’m a soggy possum now,
I’m a soggy, soggy possum now.
